The mission of MU's Office of the Vice Provost for International Programs (VPIP) is to develop an
internationalized, quality infused and inclusive academic environment. VPIP aims to provide support and services to ensure global orientations, representation and vibrant participation by and at MU. We seek to infuse the university with dynamic intercultural and international perspectives in academics, research, economic development and outreach. We strive to foster a faculty, staff, and student body that are prepared to engage the challenges of the rapidly globalizing 21st century. |

| A disastrous earthquake happened in Sichuan, Southwest of China on May 12, 2008. The death toll from the 8.0 magnitude earthquake rose to 40,075 and 247,645 were injured. Cyclone Nargis swept across Myanmar on May 2 and 3, leaving up to 78,000 people dead, 56,000 missing, 19,359 people injured.
